The South African Pavilion on 18 July 2010 undertook various activities within the Shanghai Expo as part of Mandela Day Celebrations. Part of the celebrations included performances by South African musical outfits at the Expo Cultural Centre. The Afro Tenors performed in front of Expo visitors on the day as part of the South African Pavilion’s Arts & Culture Programme. Other activities included hosting children of migrant workers, physically challenged people and a cocktail event took place inside the South African Pavilion to celebrate Madiba’s birthday. Gloria Bosman, Tidal Waves, Zuluboy and BLK JS also performed on the day

 

The Spanish soccer team defeated Holland on 11 July 2010 at Soccer City to lift the coveted world cup trophy. In true African style the South African Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo visited the Spanish Pavilion to pay homage and send congratulatory messages to the Spaniards for winning the 2010 Soccer World Cup. South African Pavilion Director Mr Schoeman Du Plessis visited the Spanish Pavilion and presented a gift and hamper to the Spanish Pavilion Commissioner-General in order to thank them for their achievement and success in the world cup. Mr Du Plessis also visited the Holland Pavilion to congratulate them for reaching the finals of the world cup.
