Statement on the Massacre in Uganda

The South African Government joins the international community in expressing its outrage and outright condemnation of the brutal and senseless massacre of innocent and defenseless civilians at a refugee camp in Uganda Saturday 21 February 2004.

President Thabo Mbeki, today Thursday 26 February 2004, extended South Africa's heartfelt condolences and sympathies to President Yoweri Museveni, the government and people of Uganda, particularly members of the bereaved families, friends and colleagues.

"During this time of bereavement, please accept Your Excellency, that our thoughts and prayers reach out to the Government and peoples of Uganda" said President Mbeki.
