Deputy Director: Foreign Service

Total salary package:

R378 456 per annum. This all-inclusive remuneration package consists of a basic salary, the State’s contribution to the Government Employees Pension Fund and a flexible portion that may be structured in terms of the applicable rules. The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance contract (Ref. 69171/1)

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be in possession of an appropriate three-year degree/National Diploma or equivalent qualification, including Political/Economic/Administrative subjects and/or relevant experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the Public Service will be an advantage
  • Minimum of five years’ appropriate experience (of which at least three years must have been in high-level multi-stakeholder interactions within the public sector).

  • Manage the Audio Library and Flag Bank, i.e. lending and receiving flags and other national symbols and procurement thereof
  • Manage assets of all national symbols
  • Draft submissions and present them to Departmental and Branch Bid Adjudication Committee for procurement of flags and related accessories
  • Follow up payments for suppliers
  • Monitor the inventory database of all symbols
  • Conduct and monitor stock take of all national symbols
  • Process requests for wearing of foreign awards by citizens of the Republic of South Africa in liaison with relevant Presidency Office
  • Manage and facilitate the foreign wing of the National Orders Awards, i.e. communicate with our missions to inform and facilitate contact with nominees and facilitate their trips to SA to receive their awards, book land transport for them during their stay in SA, book SPL facility for both their arrival and departures, provide protocol support for them during their stay in SA and also ask the mission to do the same for their departures and returns from SA in their countries of accreditations
  • Co-ordinate the set-up of flags and other national symbols during State Functions
  • Provide advice of correct usage of national symbols to the public, private sector and Government departments
  • Conduct cross-functional tasks and ad hoc projects within the Directorate
  • Submit weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
