BRANCH: DIPLOMATIC TRAINING, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
DIRECTOR: FOREIGN SERVICE - POLICY, RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS UNIT (PRAU) REF. 11686/01
Salary:
R719 613 per annum. This is an all-inclusive remuneration package which consists of a basic salary, the State’s contribution to the Government Employees Pension Fund and a flexible portion that may be structured in terms of the applicable rules. The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance contract that incorporates the generic performance areas of a Director.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be in possession of an NQF Level 6 or equivalent qualification and/or experience in Policy Research and Analysis.

- Good knowledge of international politics and foreign policy issues
- Knowledge of regional and global economic issues
- Good knowledge of the theory and practice of diplomacy

- The ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- Inter-governmental liaison and co-ordination.
Duties:
- Manage daily administrative activities of the Directorate
- Manage the Unit’s programmes/projects, including seminars, workshops and conferences
- Liaise and engage with relevant stakeholders including other South African Government Departments, parastatals, academics, think tanks, diplomatic representatives, civil society and the private sector
- Develop new or innovative programmes and projects to enhance co-operation, stimulate policy debates and generate research papers with internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to policy formulation and policy recommendations on key Government and Departmental priorities in the context of South Africa’s international relations
- Accompany and provide support to political principals, as mandated on relevant projects and outreach programmes
- Perform delegated duties under the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act 1 of 1999) (PFMA) and take responsibility for the performance management of staff in the Directorate
- Supervise the research projects of Unit and the overall outputs and performance of its officials in line with the Unit’s Annual Performance Plan.
