History of
Relations
Full diplomatic relations between the former Federal
Republic of Czechoslovakia and South Africa were established in October 1991.
With the dissolution of the Federal Republic of Czechoslovakia, the Slovak Republic
came into existence as a separate sovereign state. The bilateral diplomatic relations
entered into with the Federal Republic of Czechoslovakia continued uninterrupted
with the Slovak Republic. In April 2003 Slovakia signed the Treaty of Accession
with the EU and is set to join the European Union on 1 May 2004.
