History of Relations

South Africa and Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations in 1992.  The Embassy in Astana is accredited on a non-residential basis to the Republic of Turkmenistan.

Where to apply for Turmenistan Visa?

You can apply for a visa where Turkmenistan Embassy or Consulate exist. It is possible to obtain a maximum 10 days visa at the international arrivals lounge of Ashgabat airport.

Turkmenistan Visa Application requirements:

Two Completed Visa Applications; Request from the Embassy you will be applying to;

Valid passport and its copy. Passport must have at least six months remaining validity from the day of entrance to Turkmenistan;.

Two passport size photos glued to the Applications;

Fee, payable on collection of visa;

Approved Visa Support;

Stamped, self-addressed envelope, if the embassy agreed to serve by post.

What business opportunities are available in Turkmenistan?

Turkmenistan, a desert country, sit atop vast resources of natural gas. These reserves are being developed and pipelines are planned or being built to export gas to Turkey in the west, Pakistan to the south-east and Iran in the south, to supplement the existing pipeline to and through Russia.

Engineering and supply opportunities may arise as these projects come to fruition.

How does one reach Turkmenistan?

Ashkabad, the capital, is served by Turkish Airlines from Istanbul as well as by other foreign, Russian and domestic airlines.
