President Jacob Zuma concludes successful working visit at the AU, Addis Ababa. President Jacob Zuma concluded a working visit to Ethiopia today (2 February 2010) where he was attending the 14th Ordinary Session of the Heads of State and Government Assembly of the African Union.

Statement by the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation on the situation in the Republic of Yemen. Mr Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim, the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, met with Amb Ali Al-Ghaffari, the Head of Mission of Yemen in Pretoria, on 2 February 2010. During the meeting, Amb Al-Ghaffari briefed the Deputy Minister on the recent political and security developments in his country, as well as on the outcomes of the conference on Yemen held in London on 27 January 2010.

The African Union Summit endorses South Africa’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the period 2011-2012. The 14th Ordinary Session of the African Union held in Addis Ababa on 31 January to 2 February 2010, endorsed South Africa’s candidature for the non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the period 2011-2012.

Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane chairs the AU Ministerial Committee on Post Conflict Reconstruction and Development in the Sudan (PCRD). The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation and Chair of the African Union (AU) Ministerial Committee on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development in the South Sudan, Ms. Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, opened the AU Ministerial Committee on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development in the Sudan (PCRD), today, 30 January 2010, in Addis Ababa, on the margins of the Ordinary Session of the AU Summit. Supporting the Minister was Ambassador Ramatane Lamamra, AU Commissioner.

Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma, today 25 January 2010, extended condolences to the Government and the families of the Ethiopian, Lebanese and other nationals whose relatives were aboard the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane that crashed into the Mediterranean Sea in the early hours on Monday, 25 January 2010.

The Minister for International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, will be signing an agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) tomorrow on Tuesday, 19 January 2010, at the Department’s Head Office at 16:00, regarding the new Zone office of the IFRC based in South Africa.
